Senior Consultant – Actuary

Your skills and experience will equip you to:

  • Take responsibility for the delivery of high quality actuarial and analytical services, while meeting client timelines and ensuring quality control
  • Develop into a trusted advisor for our key insurance industry clients
  • Support the Appointed Actuary across a range of areas, potentially including valuations, reinsurance, capital, data and analytics strategy, pricing and portfolio management, claims analytics, customer analytics and the assessment of strategic initiatives
  • Direct and oversee the work of junior staff

The opportunity

The Senior Consultant is a technical expert with accountability for delivering high quality actuarial analysis which creates and protects business value for our insurance industry clients.

This role will have a focus on providing high quality actuarial services to several insurers for whom Quantium is the Appointed Actuary. This will include undertaking the actuarial valuation, completing the Actuarial Valuation Report and the Financial Condition Report, providing reinsurance analysis and advice, and calibrating Stochastic Capital Models and leveraging the outputs to advise on capital management.  The Appointed Actuary is a key strategic advisor for each of these insurers, and so you may also be involved in areas as varied as data and analytics strategy, pricing and portfolio management, claims analytics, customer analytics and the assessment of strategic initiatives. 

This role will also involve delivering projects for other insurers, for example, building, calibrating or reviewing internal capital models, delivering advanced analytics to accident compensation schemes and government or private insurers, or projects leveraging actuarial and analytical skills.

Some other things you’ll be involved with:

  • Accountable for the quality and delivery of key projects to clients, ensuring adherence to quality standards
  • Support the Lead Consultant with solution design, opportunity identification and thought leadership for key clients
  • Effectively liaise with day to day client contacts, maintaining and reinforcing Quantium’s relationship with our key clients
  • Task management including overseeing and delegating technical tasks amongst analysts
  • Contribute to capability development, internal knowledge sharing as well as general industry expertise through identification of emerging themes, problems, and opportunities
  • Use insight to present compelling stories that deliver tangible commercial value
  • Potentially management and accountability for performance management for a small number of analysts. 
  • Continuous development and self-learning: striving to understand how things work and continuously build new knowledge
  • Demonstrate an interest in coaching and people development

Do you have a bullet point checklist for me to check off my suitability?

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of experience as a General Insurance Actuary as well as:

  • Experience as a valuation actuary, and supporting the Appointed Actuary in preparation of AVR’s and FCR’s is desirable
  • FIAA or equivalent international qualification is highly regarded
  • Attention to detail and track record of delivering zero-defect work
  • Experience in supervising the work of others as a senior team member
  • Track record of effectively managing stakeholder relationships and project delivery
